Story
Art the Clown is out to wreak havoc on the unsuspecting residents of Miles County as they sleep peacefully on Christmas Eve. Director Damien Leone said several major studios were interested in financing a film based on the surprise success of Horror 2 (2022), even without a full script, but he turned them all down because he was convinced they would never let him to do that. The opening scene alone, which is “highly controversial.” Leone has commented that the only reason he can be so uncompromising in his portrayal of horror and gore is because he self-finances his films, creates all the special effects himself to keep costs down, and doesn’t have a major studio breathing down his neck. . Mia mentions that it’s coming up to the 5 year anniversary of the original murders, but that happened on Halloween and this movie taking place 5 years later at Christmas would mean the anniversary was only 2 months ago.. Julia’s Sister: Julia, I thought I said stay away from me -[Art kills him with an axe]. There is an uncut version of the film with a running time of 2 hours 25 minutes with 5 additional scenes.
Next up is Terrifier (2016)
Art by Drew Fulk, Joe Occhiuti, Paul Wiley, Spencer Charnas and Steve Sopchak Artist: Ice Nine Kills and Shavo Odadjian. This Terrifier series is amazing. The first film sucks because there’s nothing memorable narratively or cinematographically, other than the introduction of a memorable villain and spectacularly raw violence. It’s a slasher film that hasn’t been stripped down to its essentials, but somehow pushed forward. It’s a bit of a nothing film with no plot and seemingly no concern. Then came the second one, which made the villain even more memorable and his bloodshed scenes more shocking. It also had a really good story and character development (I don’t think it’s a popular opinion, but I liked it) and, for lack of a better word, introduced an interesting mythology to the series.
Violence is ugly
Terrifier 3 is everything that the second movie did well, and I think it’s even better. Terifier 2 felt a bit too long at 138 minutes, and Terifier 3’s slightly shorter running time helped a lot with the pacing. I still feel surprisingly invested in this series, which is shaping up to be truly fantastic. They can go overboard on that side of things, and they almost do here, but I really look at what these movies have evolved into. It’s at least as sadistic as the second one, maybe more so. Art the Clown is hilarious when he’s not killing people, but I really hate him. I love to hate him.
Chainsaws have never sounded louder
He is unironically one of the best villains of the last 10 years. He is Harpo Marx if Harpo was a serial killer. The last act made this movie so much better. I was afraid I was going to have a panic attack and felt nauseous. I’m a little shell-shocked after all of this, now that it’s over. There was some sadistic violence involved, but I guess I was just curious too. All of these characters have suffered so much and are so invested in winning.
This is the best series so far
The final scenes made me cringe more because I was invested, not because of the violence. I think it’s fascinating, or maybe I’m just having fun. There are some scenes that feel too cheap and the pacing isn’t perfect. Occasional rough presentations and inconsistent performance here and there. It ties the first and second films together in a way that felt rough early on. But I felt so jittery for most of the second half, so I have to celebrate a movie that got me so excited. There have been quite a few disappointments with new releases over the past month, so I’m very happy that Terrifier 3 was a movie that exceeded my expectations.
